Hoot Hoot!

Today is the first day of college for my first baby brother and sister (I have another baby brother that started high school this year too!) They are growing up and I am growing old. Story of my life!

So Tyler and Erica are both following in not only their mom, a little bit of their dad but also my lovely footsteps! They are Kennesaw State Owls. Hoot Hoot! So on Tuesday, Tyler moved into the dorms on campus and Erica and I thought it would be a great time to come up and bring him dinner before he gets too cool to hang out with us. We went with the typical college dinner…fast food! We did all of the things that sisters love to do:

1. Sat on the floor outside his dorm room door and ate our dinner until he came walking around the corner with his new buds and naturally we freaked out like we hadn’t seen him in ages (I think he may have blushed a bit!).
2. We rearranged his furniture.
3. Made sure his roommates seemed like “good guys” and we might have taken a peek at their rooms too to see what kind of people they were. Maybe.
4. Checked the laundry room for detergent (which they actually had like 10 containers of it….that will last them a lifetime!).
5. Made sure that no one could see through his window when he went to the bathroom (this one could have been realized by accident but that’s for Erica and I to know!).
6. Hid under his bed and in the shower when he walked into his room to scare him.
7. Opened up his utensils and started digging into his ice cream.
8. Tried stealing his Swedish Fish but were caught and he pulled the “poor college student” card on us.
9. Took lots of pictures.
10. After leaving his room, walking around a bit, and were headed back to our car we saw him in his room from outside so jumped around and waved our hands like crazy to get his attention. We got it. He shut his blinds. Can you say too cool for school? Haha He loves us!

Anywhooo (get it? like an owl?) keep going… while I was there I was also reminiscing on when I lived in those exact dorms as a freshman in college and decided to do some comparisons! So here it goes:

This is Tyler’s room.

This was my room (and my friend Lauren who came to visit me from Ole Miss!).

This was their living area (typical guys area – plain, stuff everywhere, a laundry basket on the kitchen counter, and mountain dew!).

This was our living room. Now I didn’t have a picture of our living area (can you believe that?? I can’t!) so I had to watch the video of Lester and I swing dancing and capture a shot from there! (Please notice the tube TV with -a feather boa might I add, the old school boom box, lamps, throw pillows, and pink everywhere…we were newly Phi Mu’s, can you blame us?). *Also, you can’t see their furniture but it is the exact same as what we had – some things never change!

Here is Tyler – all proud to be living on his own! And Erica on her first day of college!

Here are my roomies - Sam, Leslie, and I (oh, and Lady, our cat that we snuck into the dorm to live with us for about 8 months until we got caught!)

Man, college was awesome! I miss it.
I totally took it for granted while I was there!

OWLS FOR LIFE! HOOT HOOT!

(Tyler's view from his room - Gotta love the beautiful Kennesaw!)

Gone Campin'

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but August 10th was National Smores Day and you probably didn't celebrate it. But no worries because I did for you! So Happy Belated National Smores Day People!

Last weekend my Dad and family decided to take their new hand-me-down fishin' boat from our Grandpa to the lake and go camping! Well luckily for Steven and I, we live 5 minutes from the lake and 10 minutes from the campground so we told them that we would come make an appearance, grill out dinner, and fire up smores but that then we were gonna go back to our cozy beds to sleep! So we thought since we really weren't going to get the feel of camping with electrical outlets, running water, and a park ranger "in the woods" that night that we should definitely dress like we were. So we did.

Here are more pics from the adventure!

So yes, all our friends who saw our "hard core camping" picture and thought that we survived that massive storm in the middle of no where - think again. We were sound a sleep in our bed that we are so thankful for!

Flip Side

So after continually reading this absolutely awesome blog that I follow on a daily basis – I figured that I should get back into this thing that I feel silly love writing.

My Blog.

I am planning on getting a smartphone in the upcoming weeks so that should help me keep it up to date (even if it is only really silly fun things that no one everyone wants to read about).

So you are probably thinking that since I have decided to start this thing back up that I have something SUPER AWESOME to write about. Well think again! Today I come to you to tell you that we are updating our loft and I have some teaser pictures to prove it!

First – The before picture.

A nice quiet sitting area where we never sat!

Second – after about 5 long hours, 1 “almost cutting off a thumb with a saw” incident, 4 hammers, 2 crow bars, all kinds of saws, 10 pallets, and 3 people almost passing out … we had finally gotten all of the wood we needed! So after about 2 more hours, many many nails, a hammer, a level, and 2 manly men (yes, I wish I could have helped them but I was busy working downstairs on Lilly, my sewing machine, to make my very own curtains for our sliding glass door…post about that one coming soon too), anywhooo… we got this.

Our very own HOMEMADE PALLET WALL!

Third – Teaser Pics.

Forth – The After Picture….coming soon! See I told yall you wouldn’t like this blog post!

See yall on the flip side!

GOTCHA!

This post is in response to Mae Mae's post, whose post is in response to Mama Kat's writing prompt: Describe a time you felt startled.

So right off the bat... before even reading the above posts...I thought of a few incidents that I thought would be fun to share.

*Disclosure: my mom and I thought it was REALLY fun to scare each other on a regular basis by either hiding, jumping, or putting fake snakes underneath each others pillows all throughout my childhood so that definitely carried over into after I left the house (my poor college roommates!). Since graduating from college (Go Owls, Hoot Hoot!), I have refrained from scaring anyone I live with (Steven) except for every once in awhile I will scare my dog, Booti, when he has the hiccups (which by the way, that never works... but it is funny to see him jump. I know, I am so bad!). The reason I refrain from scaring Steven is because I know he has a pretty good reflex and he would punch me without thinking! haha But don't get me wrong... I still think about scaring him all of the time and sometimes I will try and hide, ready to take a punch, but for some reason he always knows where I am!

So here are a few good ones:

1. After dark, I was walking into my mom's house (when I still lived there... so in high school) and after closing the front door, my mom popped out of the room off of the foyer and screamed.... I FREAKED out, started screaming and tried to turn around and get back out the door but I slipped on the rug I was on and fell flat on the floor and started crying because I couldn't do anything else. My mom busted out laughing. I didn't think it was very funny at the time because I was HONESTLY so scared but I am definitely laughing out loud now!

2. In elementary school, my best friend, Rachel Stanley (who is still my best friend to this day!), and I lived right next door to each other. We were inseparable so we were always at her house or mine. Every time we saw the BFI trash service truck come by to get the trash at our neighbors house we thought it was the FBI so we would stop whatever we were playing with and go hide! We were so scared that they were going to scoop us up. First of all.... why did we think the BFI was the FBI when it clearly said B.F.I.? Second... why would we (little elementary school girls) be scared of the FBI anyway, what the heck did we have to hide? haha

3. This one happened... oh... last week! You know those times that you get scared of someone that just walks in a room because you didn't expect them to be there? Well I had just gotten out of the shower and I was getting ready in the bathroom (while Steven was at the gym) and I walked out of the bathroom and turned the corner and Steven was just simply walking into room but since I didn't hear the garage door or him walking in the house, Steven said I gasped (too scared to even scream) and I put my hands up in a fighters position but then I just froze and fell over on the bed. We both laughed about it for about 5 minutes and of course, Steven had to re-enact what he had just seen! :)

4. Another mom story. I was probably a 5th grader and I had just gotten home from school so I can imagine that I was being a good girl and doing my homework or something (that is what I probably told my mom!) and my mom calls from work and said that she just got notice that a big delivery just got to our house and if I could go out and make sure everything she ordered was in the box. So I open the front door and there is a HUGE box... I mean ginormous cardboard box on our front porch. I get all excited thinking it was a gift for me but when I get on my tippy toes and start opening the box, someone jumps out from the box and yells. I think I might have peed my pants a bit! Come to find out... my mom had sent one of her clients with that box to our house to do that. I told you that it was a cruel game we used to play on each other. It sure is funny now though!

5. I JUST remembered this one as I was typing the last one.... can't believe this wasn't the first one I thought of. I was, again, in elementary school and my mom and I had just gotten home so I went upstairs to change for bed (so it was dark outside) and my mom was downstairs opening the mail. Once i got to the top of the stairs and turned down the hallway to my room, I SWEAR I saw a man with a gun pointing towards me straight ahead in my moms room so I literally (no joke!) jumped from the top of the stairs to the bottom, stumbled on the last few that I didn't clear, booked it past my mom while screaming what I had just seen, and didn't stop until I got into Rachel's bathroom (where she was just merrily taking a bath!). My mom obviously had followed right behind me and after I caught my breath, I could tell her exactly what I saw. We made Rachel's dad (thank you Tom!) go check through the whole house. What a brave man. He actually had to do that multiple times. I guess I have one heck of an imaginary mind! Needless to say, he didn't find the guy.... or anything for that matter. Whew!

6. Last one, I promise! This actually isn't of me being startled but of me startling my roommate! (Hi Sam!). So I had 2 awesome college roommates in the dorm and Leslie and I liked to scare Sam all of the time. So 1 night Sam had mentioned to us on the phone on her way home from work that she couldn't wait to be there because she had to use the restroom. So what do Leslie and I do before she gets there? We hide in her shower! So Sam comes home and goes straight to her bathroom and as she was relieving herself, we jump out of the shower! HAHA you can just imagine what she did! Well being the cruel ones that we were, we didn't stop there! Later that night she was on her bed chatting with some guy she was dating and Leslie and I enter her room to talk with her and somehow Leslie distracted her while I hid under the bed. Then Leslie leaves. I wait about 5 minutes while she continues to talk to her boytoy (so she doesn't think that someone still might be in there) and then I jump up and grab her legs. I have never seen someone so startled in my life! oh my. Those were the good ole days!

So those were just some of my favorite stories! Now I just get a kick out of watching all of the pranks that air on TV. Punk'd, College Humor, Scare Tactics, etc!

2012: The Year of Crafting

Yup, that's right, a lot of crafts will be going on in 2012. How do I know this, you ask? Well, it's all how you begin (actually, it's not, it's how you end but we won't know that for a whole year so for today's blog, it's how you begin)... Yesterday was Day 1 of 2012 and guess what I did? I whipped out this little guy (that my mom got me for Christmas) for the first second time (my first time was sewing a piece of paper together so that doesn't count) and got to work!

My first sewing project EVER was a cover for my camera strap! I have been wanting one forever but they are a little pricey for my taste so on Day 1... I made it myself (for about $1 might I add!). It turned out super cute; I am pretty proud of myself. It makes me want to go out and use my camera... oh wait, I don't even know how to really use it yet, but have no fear, that is on my list for 2012 too!

Anywho, it started off like this with a sewing machine, thread, fabric, fleece interfacing, and can't forget my cute bag from Thirty One that I have made my official sewing bag!

And it turned out like this

Can I get a whoop whoop?

Next up on the 2012 Year of Crafting List: curtains and possibily a table runner if I am feeling up to it! I looked into how to make a necktie but that seems a bit complicated for my beginners mind at the moment!

No worries, I will keep all of you posted on my sewing projects, it's so fun, so rewarding, and so crafty! Watch out Micheals, JoAnns, Hobby Lobby, and all you other fabric/sewing stores that I don't know of yet... we are about to become best friends and you don't even know it yet! Oh, and I can't forget Joyce at the fabric section in Walmart, I have already gone to see her 3 times and I have only done 1 project. Yea, go ahead and call us BFF's!

And to end my first post of 2012 Crafting, I will leave you with this C that was given to me by my mother-in-law. I have cracked it out with glitter and put it on our mantel! Poor Steven, he doesn't know what he has in store for this year!
