Commitment is Overrated!

Marriage is a beautiful thing! Steven and I have truly been blessed with each other! As Steven would say though, “we hold the secret to a successful marriage” and oh boy is he right (I will tell you later on in the blog so stay tuned!). But first, we have had to prepare for our marriage. Just like Andy Stanley has told us… "Commitment is overrated. It is the preparation that will make it last." Which is so true if you think about it. You can committ to running a marathon but you can’t successfully run a marathon without preparing, so why would you think you could have a successful marriage without it. One of the things that Steven and I did to prepare was taking part in a premarital course through our church, NorthPoint. Hands down one of the best things we did! We not only learned so much about ourselves and our relationship but about what to expect in the future too! If we had to give 1 piece of advice to those engaged it would be to watch the series Andy did called iMarriage. It goes over the most simple concepts that every couple goes through! (Side Note: If you are single and/or dating, you HAVE to see the series called The New Rules to Love, Sex, and Dating. This series is also good for parents who are trying to have “the talk” with their kids. Andy couldn’t have worded it better).

All of this marriage talk is because one of my best friends just got engaged and I couldn’t be happier for them! I have been on like a natural high for 3 days because I know the love they share is real! Here is a picture of Leslie and Brandon! Congrats you two… this time of your lives is the best, enjoy every minute. Every laugh, tear, smile, and of course the gifts!

The thing about marriage is that God designed us to be “one flesh.” It is the most tangible way that God shows His love for us. The love Steven gives to me will be the closest thing I will feel to God’s love on Earth and vice versa. I feel blessed to have such a wonderful man to show me His love. Now I know you are dying to know our secret and the secret is simply this: picture a triangle. I am on the left bottom corner, Steven is on the right bottom corner, and God is at the top. In order for us to have a successful marriage, we both need to strive to move closer to God….the more we do that, the more we grow closer to each other. Now you will never look at a triangle the same...you're welcome!

Happy Marriages EveryoneI

(After posting this I realized that I have done a post like this not too long ago (click here to read it). I guess I just can't believe that some people don't believe in marriage or you could say that I love my husband so much that I want to shout to out to everyone who will listen... either one!)

GO GLOBAL X

Well Steven and I have actually come to a point in our marriage where this blog title actually makes sense! When we decided to not go on the 11 month mission trip to South Africa, we still wanted to go somewhere. We had heard only great things about Global X (which is our church’s mission trip organization) so we got information on the trips they offered. Most of them are 10 days long so we thought it would be a great way for us to dip our toes in! We applied for a trip to South Africa (we still felt called to go there) back in January and last Friday we found out that we were 2 of 8 selected to go! Needless to say, we are pumped! We haven’t had a team meeting yet but the last we heard we will be doing a leadership retreat for middle and high schoolers while we are there. That is perfect for Steven and I! Not only do we connect better with kids closer to our age but we are wanting to eventually get involved with that age group at our church at some time or another so this is a great way to test out our skills!

So I am happy to say that this blog will now be a way for friends and family to finally keep up with our “honeymoon highway traveling!” Right now we are praying for our group and partners in South Africa, starting to think of ways to fundraise, and our team leader told us to start working on our tans because it will be summer when we go… little does he know that I am totally taking this seriously! It gives me a reason to go to the pool so why not!
